It is easily seen in places like playgrounds, restaurants, roller rinks, swimming pools, and also in classrooms. Obesity is now a modern health problem for today’s children, who struggle with an increase in weight like never before.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It poses a difficult problem to fight since you, as a parent, want your children’s diet to be nutritious all the time for healthy growth. Some kids do outgrow obesity, but others carry it with them into adulthood.
I remember my mom telling me I was a bit fat when I was younger, but as I grew, I lost weight and became a slim young adult, and today, I still try to remain slim, fit, and trim.
Obesity in kids can make them feel fatigued and worthless, as well as hopeless. Obesity also places children at greater risk for diabetes and heart disease.
What is the increased rate of the problem? The number of children with obesity is increasing day by day, according to statistics. The problem affects children of all ages and from all ethnic groups
Overweight kids may not develop socially as fast as their peers. There is a tendency for them to become loners, finding it difficult to make friends.
They may think that their weight problem is beyond their control and may not know what to do to prevent weight gain. Obese children can become our lost generation if the problem is not curbed globally.
Parents of these kids may not realize the dangers of obesity to their children’s health emotionally and may consider it just a passing phase. Parents usually do not understand the devastating psychological effects overweight can have on their children.
Even when their kids complain about the problem to them, they simply ignore it and give the encouraging words that it will wear off on its own.
The causes of obesity in children are complex, but there is something that triggers it that can easily be identified. For example, many families engage in hurried meals because they have many commitments to fulfill in a short time.
Parents think that they do not have enough time to prepare nutritious meals for their kids, so they opt for fast foods and snacks for replacement. As a result, children’s diets consist mainly of carbohydrates and fats with little or no nutritional value.
According to health research by the American Obesity Association, one-third of parents believe that their kid’s dietary habits are worse than theirs in their childhood days.
Lack of Physical Exercise: Kids watch TV more than 24 hours a week, in addition to the time devoted to their computers. As a result, they play less outside than the children of past generations.
Many of them feel they cannot participate in sports because of their weight. They pass up opportunities to engage in physical activities, thereby feeling defeated before they even start.
Children are affected by what they watch on TV. Television is one of the major channels through which they are affected. Unfortunately, there are lots of advertisements for foods that can be best classified as unhealthy.
Children crave what they see on TV as well as in movie theaters, not realizing the health implications of these foods for their bodies.
I have often been told by my mom that there is no problem in life without a solution. Always encourage your kids to participate in sporting activities and dance.
Try and follow the steps I listed below to overcome your child’s weight problem so they can grow up healthy and prolong their lifespan.
If your child is conscious of being part of a team, try to exercise with him or her. Do things to encourage them, for instance, by taking out a ball and shooting a few hoops or by turning on the stereo to dance.
Surprisingly, your kids start moving and exercising, thereby getting rid of excess fat in their bodies.
If your kids spend less time watching TV, there’s a tendency that they will spend more time exercising.
The purchase and consumption of junk foods should be banned from your home. Do meal prep of natural foods and veggies for them to take to school during school periods.
Consult your child’s pediatrician to see if he or she can recommend some specific weight-loss and control strategies.
You can overcome this global epidemic of childhood obesity or fatness if you follow the simple advice I have discussed above.
Stay healthy, and keep your kids fit and trim too.
